KYC & AML Policy
Calgary Casino is committed to preventing money laundering, terrorist financing, fraud and underage gambling. To meet our obligations under Canadian law and the requirements that apply to us in the provinces where we are regulated, we follow a Know Your Customer (KYC) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) program. This policy explains what we check, why we check it and what we may ask you to provide.
Why We Verify
Verification protects you and keeps our platform safe. It allows us to:
- Confirm that you are 19 or older and eligible to play.
- Make sure you are who you say you are and that no one else is using your identity.
- Confirm you are located where our service is permitted.
- Ensure that responsible play limits and self-exclusions apply to the right person.
- Prevent our service from being used to launder money or fund crime.
- Process withdrawals securely to the rightful owner.
Identity and Age Verification
We complete KYC and geolocation checks before you can make any deposit. In many cases we can verify you electronically using the details you provide at registration. Where that is not possible, or where we need further confirmation, we will ask for documents such as:
- Proof of identity: a valid, government-issued photo ID such as a passport, driver's licence or provincial identification card.
- Proof of address: a recent utility bill, bank statement or government letter showing your name and residential address, generally dated within the last three months.
- Proof of payment method: a photo of your card with the middle digits covered, a screenshot of your e-wallet account or a bank statement showing your name.
- Selfie verification: in some cases, a photo of you holding your ID to confirm it belongs to you.
Documents must be clear, in colour, show all corners and be valid. We may ask for additional checks before processing a withdrawal, when your details change or at any time we consider it necessary.
Source of Funds and Source of Wealth
Where your deposits or activity reach certain levels, or where something appears unusual, we may ask you to explain where your money comes from. This is a standard legal requirement and does not mean we suspect you of wrongdoing. We may request:
- Recent payslips or an employment letter.
- Bank statements showing your income.
- Tax documents or proof of business income.
- Evidence of savings, investments, an inheritance or the sale of property.
These checks also help us make sure that players are not gambling beyond their means.
Ongoing Monitoring
Verification is not a one-time event. We monitor accounts and transactions on an ongoing basis to identify activity that may be unusual or suspicious, including:
- Large or frequent deposits that do not match a player's profile.
- Deposits followed by withdrawals with little or no play.
- Use of multiple payment methods or methods in other people's names.
- Attempts to hide location or identity, such as using a VPN.
- Links between accounts suggesting duplicate or shared use.
We also require that deposits and withdrawals use payment methods in your own name, and we generally return funds to the original deposit method where it supports withdrawals.
Politically Exposed Persons and Sanctions Screening
We screen players against Canadian and international sanctions lists and lists of politically exposed persons (PEPs), heads of international organisations and their family members and close associates. Screening takes place at registration and continues throughout the life of the account. Where a player is identified as a PEP, we apply enhanced due diligence, which may include additional source-of-wealth checks and senior management approval. We will not provide services to anyone subject to sanctions that prohibit us from doing so.
Record Keeping and Reporting
We keep records of identity verification, transactions and related correspondence for the periods required by Canadian anti-money laundering law, even after an account is closed. Where required, we report suspicious transactions, large cash or virtual currency transactions and terrorist property to the appropriate Canadian authorities. The law may prohibit us from telling you that a report has been made.
If Checks Are Not Passed
If you do not provide the information we request, or if we cannot verify your identity, age, location or source of funds, we may:
- Prevent deposits until verification is complete.
- Delay or decline withdrawals.
- Suspend or restrict your account.
- Void bonuses and winnings obtained in breach of our Terms.
- Close your account and, where the law allows, return verified deposited funds.
- Report the matter to the relevant authorities where required.
If an account is found to belong to a person under 19, it will be closed and handled as described in our Underage Gambling Policy.
How We Protect Your Documents
All documents you send us are stored securely, accessed only by authorised staff and used only for verification, legal compliance and fraud prevention. See our Privacy Policy for more information.
